It may be raining outside but it’s cosy and warm today at The Cider Press.
It’s business as usual for Rob, Alison and Sam despite the cold and rain sweeping across Deanhouse.
There’s apples to be harvested, cider to be pressed and delicious home cooked dishes to be prepared.
Why not pop down for a coffee with friends, or flip open your iPad and chill out on your own in front of our log fire with a glass of your favourite tipple?
We celebrated apple day at the cider house and once again blessed the trees with a good old wassail ceremony! A great time was had by all with games for children, bangers and mash and plenty of that lovely juice from the apple! This year we asked everybody to make a donation to Candle Lighters (Children’s cancer charity) and we raised £350…
WASSAIL!!!
After being contacted by John the beekeeper from Honley, we are going ahead with preparing an area for three hives to to be situated in the orchard. The bees will be in residence in Spring just in time to enjoy the apple blossom and pollinate the trees!
After completion of the Cider Press here at Pure North, we decided to launch the cider house with a traditional wassail ceremony which brought the whole community together. This is more common in the South West but we feel it’s important to keep these traditions at Pure North. The event turned out to be a fantastic day, everyone came together to celebrate with us, and we hope the ceremony will successfully ward off evil spirits from the orchards!

Hopefully this is the start of bigger things for Pure North, as the Cider Press in now in business, we look forward to supplying Pure North Cider products to stockists in the local area and further.
We are very pleased to add another Pure North Stockist to our list – T&Cake in Almondbury, Huddersfield is now serving Pure North Original Cider. T&Cake is a modern, licensed café, on a bustling suburban street in leafy Almondbury, serving bespoke teas, excellent coffee, interesting sandwiches, snacks and, of course, cake. Lots of cake.
If you just want to pop in for a drink, aside from our range of locally roasted coffees and fine teas, you can enjoy a milkshake in a frosted metal mug with a stripy straw, a glass of wine from a carefully chosen list or a refreshing cider from Holmfirth.

We stumbled across an article in The Guardian last saturday about the rise of traditional cider presses, and the UK’s revived love of cider.
It seems that the demand for cider is on the increase, as Cider Presses and orchards are springing up all over the country. According to the article, which appeared in the food and drink section of the paper, “it was only a matter of time before cider was rediscovered.”
…wine brewers makers and craft brewers are all converging on cider as The Next Big Thing.
